ASHEN HORDE Signs To Extreme Metal Music For New Album “Fallen Cathedrals” Out March 2019

ASHEN HORDE Signs To Extreme Metal Music For New Album “Fallen Cathedrals” Out March 2019

For fans of Ihsahn, Opeth, Borknagar

Hailing from the cold, unforgiving wastelands of Hollywood, California, ASHEN HORDE is a two-piece band that strives to embrace a multitude of extreme metal sub-genres, without being bound to any one of them. Drawing influence from metal’s crème de le extreme, from Enslaved and Devin Townsend to Ihsahn and Opeth, ASHEN HORDE (aka Trevor Portz and Stevie Boiser (Vale of Phath, Inferi)), may have a sound rooted in death and black metal, but can’t truly be called either.

Originally launched as a one-man project in 2013 by writer and multi-instrumentalist Trevor Portz, ASHEN HORDE has released two critically acclaimed albums, as well as several EPs, over the past three years. Beginning with the ambitious Sanguinum Vindicta trilogy, Portz has worked tirelessly to develop a sound that is both challenging and unique.
The band has just completed its third album, “Fallen Cathedrals” and has signed with Extreme Metal Music/Rockshots Records for its release on CD and vinyl in Europe and North America on March 22nd, 2019. A concept album in the vein of J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel “High Rise,” “Fallen Cathedrals” explores class warfare and a society’s descent into primitive, warring tribes. Musically, the album expands further on the complexities of the band’s earlier releases, but with even more emphasis on progressive and melodic elements, even incorporating clean vocals for the first time. It will appeal to fans of the more progressive side of extreme metal, from Ihsahn and Borknagar to Opeth and Enslaved.

Portz adds:
“The forthcoming album, Fallen Cathedrals, is the perfect illustration of what Ashen Horde is all about. Musically, it draws influence from across the metal spectrum. There is hyper speed, blast-beat-fueled black metal that runs alongside pummeling death metal riffs; clean-sung melodic passages juxtaposed against face-melting screams, and headbanging beats intermixed with progressive odd-time signatures.”
Album pre-order will be available on www.Rockshots.eu.

ARCH ENEMY

Let us hold high the Chalice of Satan and drink deep, to the world’s end!

DOOL

Afgelopen jaar bewees DOOL dat zij een van de meest interessante Nederlandse bands uit de underground zijn. Begin 2017 bracht de band hun debuutplaat ‘Here Now, There Then’ uit.

ZONETRIPPER Release ‘Disconnected’ Music Video feat. Fredrik Reinedahl (Solstafir, Opeth, In Flames)

ZONETRIPPER Release ‘Disconnected’ Music Video feat. Fredrik Reinedahl (Solstafir, Opeth, In Flames)

Swedish metal band ZONETRIPPER released a music video for ‘Disconnected‘, it’s the first single out of their debut album, due for release later this year. ZONETRIPPER was formed by metal and rock producer Fredrik Reinedahl (Solstafir, Peter Dolving, Opeth, In Flames). The video can be viewed the at the bottom of the report.

The video was shot by Ninja Agborn in support of Standing Rock and the water protectors there – to commemorate the Wounded Knee massacre.

ZONETRIPPER was formed by metal and rock producer Fredrik Reinedahl, known for producing, engineering and mixing bands like SolstafirPeter Dolving, OpethIn FlamesBurstGadget and more, with the idea to reinvigorate the metal scene by taking what he learned from growing up as a metal fan and fusing it together into a something fresh, something never heard before. Everything from blues to thrash metal, from psychedelia to pop. There are no limits, that was the basic idea.

Songs came together quickly, but forming the band took some time. Numerous singers have passed the door, among them Peter Dolving from The Haunted (now in I Am Fire and Dress The Dead) and Krummi Bjorgvins (Legend).

Now the band consists of some known faces from the Gothenburg metal and punk scene. The bass is handled by none other than Martyrdöd vocalist Mikael KjellmanKalle Persson from Skitsystem joined ZONETRIPPER on drums last spring, together with keyboard player Niklas Abrahamsson. The band is fronted by vocalist Anette Lith, who has a background as a singer and dancer in musicals and shows across the globe.

The band have recorded it’s first album and is looking to release it in 2017. In the meantime, the band will do as much touring as possible

———————————————————————-

American Pagan Metal? What does that mean? Americans pretending that they are Vikings?
No, Helsott is so much more than that. Lyrically, Helsott pay homage to all things pagan, not just Scandinavian Paganism. American Mythology, Scandinavian Mythology, Germanic Mythology, Ancient Egyptology, Celtic Mythology, Greek Mythology, and all things Heathen. Paganism was and still is relevant all around the world and is the main backdrop in the Theater of Helsott. Musically, if you threw Folk Metal, Death Metal, Symphonic Metal, Thrash Metal, Classical Music and Rock n’ Roll into a smelting pot and poured its contents onto the world…that world would scream Helsott. Meaning “Fatal Illness” in Teutonic, Helsott have already carved a piece of the Metal World for them-selves and plan on carving deeper with their beautifully brutal, pagan themed brand of metal for years to come.
On a National level Helsótt has toured the US and Canada with Paganfest alongside Ensiferum, Tyr, Heidevolk, and Trollfest…for Rock The Nation USA. In 2015 Helsott toured the US in support of their album “Woven” twice. The first being a summer headlining tour and the second in support of Arkona and Heidevolk on the Pagan Rebellion tour.
On a local level Helsótt has supported national and international acts such as: Finntroll, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Opeth, Katatonia, Trollfest, Heidevolk, Turisas, Nile, Ex Deo, Dio’s Disciples, Tyr, Korpiklaani, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Nevermore, Barren Earth, Suidakra, Eluveitie, Arkona, Alestorm, Metsatöll, Kill Devil Hill, Carach Angren, Fear Factory, Rotting Christ, Epica, Death Angel, Hate, Kampfar, Vreid, Keep of Kalessin, D.R.I., Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, Necrophagia, 1349, Warbringer, Mayhem, Destruction, Heathen, Goatwhore, Possessed, Woods of Ypris, Decrepit Birth, Origin, Dillinger Escape Plan…and many more.

RHINE Post Trailer For Upcoming Album ‘An Outsider’ Due Out Feb 5th, 2016

Seattle’s RHINE are proud to announce their return in 2016 with their new album ‘An Outsider’ to follow up 2011’s debut ‘Duality’, which was first a solo effort by band founder Gabriel Tachell (guitar and vocals). Now joined by Alex Smolin on guitar (ex-Metameric), James Porter on bass (Ideofone), and Carlos Delgado (Inferion, ex-Death Crowned King) to collaborate on this project, the band has posted a trailer video to give a glimpse of what’s to come from the 10 track full length when it’s unleashed on February 5, 2016.
Band founder Gabriel Tachell comments on the release:
“‘An Outsider’ is about the struggle that comes with being different, it’s a love/hate situation. You want to shine but you’re afraid of it at the same time. You want to create trends, not follow them, but it’s scary to be the first one. It also has to do with social struggles and always feeling like a stranger. This theme is primarily represented by the title track. Many of the songs have different themes that are not all closely related. The album is all over the map emotionally. Not just angry and dark, but sometimes totally ironic or sometimes very deep and inspiring. It mixes in emotions you wouldn’t typically hear on a metal record like joy and nostalgia. The listening experience is a journey that won’t get you worn out on a single emotion, instead it is dynamic like we are as humans. We form strong bonds to the music we love because of all these things that it can convey, and we are attempting to create something people can feel the same way about.”

About:
Seattle’s Rhine are seamlessly connecting German thrash metal with Swedish death metal much like their namesake, the Rhine River. The founder of the group Gabriel Tachell named it such for its simplicity and as a metaphor for fluidity and change. The band started in 2011 with the release of their first album ‘Duality’ which was at first a solo effort by Tachell (guitar and vocals) and eventually led to a full band. He is now joined by Alex Smolin on guitar (ex-Metameric), James Porter on bass (Ideofone), and Carlos Delgado (Inferion, ex-Death Crowned King) to collaborate on this project.

Rhine are primarily producing epic, progressive songs and yet others flow to the mouth of the river where there is a culmination of black, death, and thrash metal, occasionally tinged with classical, folk and other styles. The band has a certain frantic unpredictability in terms of songwriting and structure while the moody vocals gently ride over the extreme precision of the guitar, drum, and bass. The four-piece are experimental in their intentions, yet melodically and rhythmically catchy with the delivery. Tachell is the primary inspiration for the current material, referencing experiences in his life from emotional turmoil, health issues, fairy tales, to dreams of finding corpses floating in a swamp. Their interesting themes and energetic music has been evolving into a unique and distinctive sound.

Live, Rhine is an unbridled horse that emotes a nervous uncertainty of what is next compositionally and emotionally. The band bases their performance on the backbone of the band — guitar, vocals, bass, and drums, and they definitely don’t shy away from the challenges of playing music like this live without the help of backing tracks. Their latest release ‘An Outsider’ is slated for February 5, 2016 and while it may not be heavier than the previous release, it is certainly more advanced in terms of playing, songwriting, vocal performance and production. It includes tracks featuring german lyrics, completely improvised solos and an overall human-ness that is often lost amongst other high level metal productions in this age of quantizing and autotuning. Rhine are one band that has grown into a machine that is not to be missed.

CD Review Iris Divine-‘Karma Sown’.

Iris Divine  ‘Karma Sown’ CD Review

iris divine1

Members: Navid Rashid – Vocals/Guitars, Brian Dobbs – Bass, Kris Combs – Drums/Keys

Hometown: Centreville, VA – Genres: Metal / Progressive Rock / Progressive Metal

The American Progressive Metalband, Iris Divine, released their double EP Convergence in 2011. In 2013 they released the masterpiece demo EP The Everlasting Sea. Iris Divine could count on the support from several big bands such as Katatonia, Orphaned Land and Fates Warning, not only on the CD’s, also on stage. The metal scene as well showed tons of support .

When asked to describe the band, you would place them somewhere between King’s X, Deftones, Alice in Chains and even a bit of Dream Theater. The band produces a powerful sound and you can hear right away they are a well-oiled machine.

They recently released their newest CD ‘Karma Sown’ on Sensory Records and it seemed the perfect time for us to strip down the latest work.
Here we go!

Track 1, ‘The Everlasting Sea’ is spot on with the sound, like said above. Nice powerful groovy  with some great additional breaking solo’s where they take the time to throw in some more calm mid-tempo parts.  Navid Rashid’s vocals are noticed right away thanks to the great reach of his voice. He also plays guitar and its spot on, once more. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance yet to see them live so it’s only a question if he can produce the same quality of voice, live on stage!Karma Sown cover art

The second track on the CD is ‘Fire Of The Unknown’ possesses a heavy groovy riff that captures your attention and builds towards a moment where the tempo is completely turned around. Vocals are very raw, but yet again he is able to reach the higher octaves, giving the song a rather fresh sound with lots of variation to complete it.

Song 3 ‘A Suicide Aware’ starts of with a heavy intro voice. You can hear several voices mumbling, followed by a great bass line of Brian Dobbs, followed by Navids powerchords. This song shows you the different influences they have with all the great up-tempo parts and the lovely synthesizer tunes of Kris Combs who manages to make the song sound even more energetic.

On track 4 ‘Mother’s Prayer’ the band is able to show their versatility and take us on a psychedelic road with a very moody guitarsolo. For a second it  feels like we’re going back in time to the 70ies and the old skool Hard Rock, topped with a Irvin Divine sauce. Great stuff!

The 5th track ‘Prisms’ starts once more slowley to then reach a mid tempo gallop, tecnically into perfection, and a smashing solo that you want to hear over and over again.

Taking us to track 6, ‘In Spirals’ it’s clear to me this CD gets better and better towards the end, just like a party, where the crowd becomes more beautiful the later it gets! This instrumental song seriously gave me goosebumps, that’s how fantastic it is put together! Wow!

7th track ‘Apathie Rains’ is totaly the opposite of ‘In Spirals’. The sound is very apatic and instantly puts you back on this shitty planet, were injustice rules. The chorus takes the song as a twister! Navid Rashid opens up all registers on this one and he drags you allong with him in the powerful vocal abilities! Powerful riff, great drumming and then a spoken outro that slowly fades in the distance… What a great record this is!

‘In The Wake Of Martyrs’ is the final track on this masterpiece album ‘Karma Sown’
After some guitar chords and very dooming bass taps the song flows into impressive drumlines. The following riff is supported by synthesizer sounds that shine an extra light on the song. After this powerful intro you’ll get a unexpected break with a rather calm part, followed by a increasing tempo taking you to the ultimate climax of the CD.

‘In The Wake Of Martyrs’ is an excellent closing track for this great CD!
