DEADITE – CD review and giveaway…

Deadite – CD review and giveaway…

Eight years ago the Belgian Horror Punk band Deadite was formed in the town of Wamme. The guys released a very good first cd, named Die Flower, on their own label.
Last month the new cd named ”The Damned”, was released on the German ”Undead Artists” label.

Deadite are part of the so called Horror Punk scene. Once made popular in the late seventies and early eighties by the Misfits….who sang about horror and science fiction themes and dressed themselves up as scary as possible. Later bands like Blitzkid, The Deep Eynde, Calabrese, Nim Vind and many others followed this style of music and looks.

Especially in Germany this stream of music became very popular in the beginning of 2000. Lot’s of German horror punk bands were formed, and a very active label in this scene, Fiendforce records, started a very cool festival, named Fiend(force) Fest, in the city of Solingen. Lots of German and International horror punk acts played on this festival for several years. The Fiend Fest was held from 2005 till 2009. The Fiendforce label called it a quit not much later.

So is this scene dead already?
No way!!! There’s still a lot of bands playing this cool style, like the guys from Deadite!
Let’s get into the new album….
Like said before, the first album was already a very pleasant one, but the new album shows a nice evolvement from there.

The cd starts with a cut from a movie as intro and then followed by a song that represents everything that horror punk stands for, ”The Shadows” is a melodic up tempo punk song, with great vocals by singer Sam, nice guitar parts and an overal rock&roll feel . There’s a multi vocal chorus, and you are easily tempted to sing a long with those ghouls of Deadite. Cool song!
deadite blood feast

Deadite are: Vocals/guitar – Sam Segers – Bass – Ben Noens – Lead guitar – Kristof van Uytvanck
– Drums – Kurt Noens

The second song, ”Age of Violence” starts with some threatening sounding guitars and soon turns into an up tempo song, with mean vocals and lyrics about people getting insane and killing each other. First came to mind that this was some kind of protest song about the world getting more and more violent, but the song could easily be a soundtrack to a zombie apocalyptic movie or series like ”the Walking Dead”.

Third song is the title track ”The Damned”. It’s an semi acoustic track, bit slower then the first two songs, but beautiful brought, and Sam really shines with his pleasant sounding voice!
A friendly, almost soft song with lyrics about the dead being in need for brains….couldn’t the contrast being bigger? Deadite can do it, and they do it very very well!

Collector”, the fourth song is another horror punk track. It starts slow, but halfway it speeds up and then slows down again. Nice melodic sounding guitars, a pounding bass and skull splitting drums. Great track!

Show Me Some Love” is as you can guess a romantic love song, but in horror style of course!
This is another cool horror punk song. Nice trible like drumming.

The sixt song is not an S.O.D. cover as you might think by hearing the name of it. ”Pussywhipped” is a pure rock&roll track, which you can dance to, and the lyrics are really funny…about a one night stand with the wrong girl.

Empty Heart” is another semi acoustic track, but this time up tempo. Nice guitar parts and solo….the song gives me a kind of cowboy style feel to it, very very nice song.

Damnation” is another up tempo punk rock song, in true Deadite style!

Track number 9……one of my favorites on this album. ”The Taker” is a song that could have easily being written by Glenn Danzig. The song starts slow and mellow, but soon there are a lot of tempo changes, and it sounds mean when it speeds up…..briljant….love it. Glenn wouldn’t have don it better!

The Mark of Cain” is another pleasing horror punk track with some sing-a-long ”whoa-ohs”

Roadkill” is a more aggressive sounding song. The tempo is fast, and Sam’s vocals go violent on this one…great song to scream a long with. Kill Kill!

One of the fastest and punkiest songs on the album is ”Same Shit Different Day” (S.S.D.D).
Raw and brutal, and even with all this violence Sam’s throat can deal with it easily! Love it!!

The 13th and final track is ”Cursed”. A step down in speed, and acoustic….but brought with so much strenght. What a great way to end this ghoulish album.

This album kicks some fucking ass, every time you play you will love it more and more. Belgium proves they have a class act that could easily measure with the bigger names in the Horror Punk scene, Hell Yeah!!!
