Canadian Guitar Prog PYRAMIDS ON MARS Premieres Full Stream of Third Album “Edge of The Black”

For fans of Joe Satriani, Rush, Yngwie J Malmsteen, Steve Vai

Guitarist Kevin Estrella’s project Pyramids On Mars has a new album being released on December 21, 2019, entitled “Edge of the Black”. This third full length from Pyramids On Mars offers up an aural palette of intense instrumental progressive shredding rock that’s emotional, provocative and 4-dimensional.

Teaming up with Bravewords, Pyramids On Mars is premiering the album’s full stream before it officially drops HERE.

Estrella adds:

“On ‘Edge of The Black’, I wanted to put emphasis on songwriting and telling a story. The emphasis is not just on the lead guitar melody, but on the band as a whole. Harmonic variations on repeating themes are strongly utilized; like rhyming phrases in spoken language that allows easier accurate retelling of the original story. This idea of repeating music phrases/themes so the audience can easily recall it and hum it all the way home.

Many people would think that being an instrumental guitarist that I must listen to a lot of guitar players. On the contrary, I do not. Yes, I was originally influenced by guitar players like Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen and spent many years learning their style. But my own sense of identity has come from the music I am most passionate about, which is Baroque Classical Music. I am a huge Yngwie Malmsteen fan. I spent two years, in fact, listening to nothing, but Malmsteen and studied his style. But I did not want to become another Malmsteen clone. I realized that in order to play like him, I had to listen to his influences. My life changed when I started listening to Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini. It was like hearing music for the very first time. I listen to mostly classical music these days.

When you listen to Edge of the Black, most of the guitar melodies are actually violin melodies. And many of them are found in my online instructional guitar lessons. There are a few other people who inspired Edge of the Black. You will hear Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Queen influences. Some of the bass parts are inspired by Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) and John Deacon (Queen).

Personally ‘Edge of The Black’ sounds like if Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen joined Rush.”
“Edge of the Black” follows Pyramids On Mars’ two previous albums and was written, composed and performed solely by Kevin Estrella who cites influences from musical greats including J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi along with today’s guitar virtuosos Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani. “Edge of the Black” pays homage to these artists while still maintaining Estrella’s own creative flair. Estrella shares his thoughts on the album

“Edge of The Black” pre-order available on Bandcamp.

About:
Every once in a while there comes along a band that is so different or unique, you would think they were dropped on Earth from another planet. Pyramids On Mars is one of those bands. What first catches you, is that they are an instrumental band. A combination of elements such as hard rock, industrial, metal and psychedelic rock: and then the lead guitar comes soaring in. Well crafted, beautiful, melodic phrases so catchy and memorable they will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Pyramids On Mars is the solo project of guitarist Kevin Estrella. He wanted to do something musically different that would stand out from the crowd. Estrella’s musical style is very similar to world-renowned rock guitarist Joe Satriani, so much so that Estrella has nicknamed himself the “Satriani of the North.”
“Of course Satriani has had a huge influence on me,” he says “But he (Satriani) does more of a bluesy thing whereas I am more influenced by classical music. I absolutely love the Baroque classical composers J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi who are my biggest musical influences.
Estrella recorded, produced, engineered and mastered his debut album, self-titled “Pyramids On Mars” in 2013. Since then, he has been capturing music industry attention-getting international radio airplay in the U.S, Canada, South America, and Europe. He is a regular guest on Brian ‘the hammer’ Jackson radio (Los Angeles) to over 4 million listeners and a weekly speaker on Real Rock Radio (Chicago).

This band from the Netherlands brings us heavy rock/progressive metal and they are drawing their influences from bands like Karnivool, Leprous, Mastodon, Twelve Foot Ninja, He Is Legend and many others. After they had already released four EPs(amongst them one live-EP), its now time for their first full length-album.

Rock-Pix Media give Temple Renegade our full support since this is an great band from the Netherlands who already did hit the stages in the UK and France, and of course in the Netherlands, since they were founded in 2013.

So check it out here…

Temple Renegade biography

Temple Renegade is a four piece Heavy Rock/Progressive Metal band hailing from The Netherlands, drawing on influences from the likes of: Karnivool, Mastodon, Gojira, Leprous, He is Legend and many others.

The band was called into life by Sven and Jerome in 2014 and was dabbling with heavy rock sounds in its fledgling days. Drum reinforcement was soon to be found in the likes of Sander, who has since been spearheading the band’s rhythmic adventures. The hunt for a bassist went through a few iterations and Angel turned out to be a keeper. Since then, the band’s sound started moving away from its rock roots and started to lean more toward Metal.

Temple Renegade has released two EPs, “Blacked out Ocean” (2016) and “Void Machine” (2017), and have made well deserved appearances on the international scene, touring both the UK in 2016 and 2018, and France in 2017. Once back in the Netherlands the band continued to tour their home country, winning band battles [They were also featured in the Wacken Metal Battle finals for the Netherlands], and writing new material, taking their musical journey into even darker vibes.

The band has spent the last year writing and recording their debut full length album, ‘The All Is None’, which will come out on November 22nd 2019.

 Schizophrenic black metal band

 MEDICO PESTE

Polish black metal formation MEDICO PESTE are now revealing the cover artwork and tracklist of their upcoming album ‘ב :The Black Bile’. The new record is set for worldwide release on March 20, 2020

MEDICO PESTE have furthermore released a track teaser for the song “God Knows Why”, which can be viewed at the Official Season of Mist Youtube Channel HERE.

In recent years, many Polish black metal bands have found their way to the forefront of the scene. Sharing live musicians with the titans of Mgła, MEDICO PESTE approach common narratives in black metal from a darker and more twisted state of mind than their contemporaries. The five-piece embrace a different look at death, religion, the Devil and his work, by exploring the distorted views of a tormented, neurotic subject and his schizophrenic visions.

MEDICO PESTE was originally formed in early 2010 by Lazarus (vocals) and Nefar (guitar), shortly after joined by The Fall (bass), EVT (guitar) and Priest (drums). The band released a demo in 2011 and shortly after followed up with the debut: ‘א: Tremendum et Fascinatio’. With this first full length, the Polish band impressed fans worldwide with their distinct approach to black metal.

In 2014 the band parted ways with Priest, replaced by The Fall for the recording of the EP ‘Herzogian Darkness’. The acclaimed EP came out in 2017 and in that same year and Desolator joined the band as permanent drummer. MEDICO PESTE continued working on their second record and joined forces with Season of Mist’s Underground Activists sublabel to release ‘ב :The Black Bile’ in 2020.

Themes such as madness, religion and nihilism form the core part of the band’s lyrics, accompanied by music which emanates psychopathic rage, intertwined with a wide range of non-metal influences like post-punk, avantgarde and cabaret music. ‘ב :The Black Bile’ builds on a specific vision of madness revolving around butoh theatre, ecclesiogenic neurosis, schizophrenia, dark grotesque and Jungian archetypes. Beware when you enter these nightmarish visions, emanating from a contorted mind..

Greta Thunberg is TIMES’s person of the year, let us take her world-famous speech from the UN Climate Summit even further with death metal.

G.T How Dare You
Despotz Records 1 October 2019

A time ago, Greta Thunberg (the teenaged leader of the climate revolution, she needs no further presentation) gave a speech to the world leaders at the opening of the UN Climate Summit in New York. The speech, where she relentlessly scolded the world’s most powerful people for their lack of action facing the climate crisis, quickly became a classic and, along with Martin Luther King’s epoch-making speech, “I have a dream”, is placed among the most influential and important speeches in the history of modern humanity.
Shortly thereafter, a music video was released on youtube where the Death Metal phenomenon G.T, also known as John Mollusk, the drummer of New York thrash metal band Suaka, converted the speech into a death metal song where he himself growls along with Greta. The clip went viral and has already been viewed over 4 million times.

All the record company’s profits from the release will go straight to the environmental rights activist group Greenpeace. With the single release, Despotz Records launches a campaign under the hashtag #GREENMETAL where they urge the metal fans worldwide to mobilize and take part in the environmental movement together and to create history making the death metal song “How Dare You” enter the billboard top 10 charts!

“When I saw her speech, I was very impressed by her passion and outrage, and the words she chose just evoked the darkness of the metal music I love: Entombed, Gojira, At the Gates, Sepultura.”Said Molusk (G.T) to the Rolling Stone Magazine about making the song. He hopes people don’t think he’s trying to make fun of her with the video and that he agrees with her message.”My personal stance is that individuals need to do their part to strive to conserve and preserve our environment.”says G.T

Greta herself approved the metal make-over of her speech by tweeting “I have moved on from this climate thing From now on I will be doing death metal only !!”

One action does not need to exclude the other, because now the track “How Dare You” is released as a single in collaboration with the Swedish independent hard rock label Despotz Records.

Greta says it better than neither we on this label nor any other adult so far has been able to say it, so one of the best things we can do is to use our platform for spreading her own words. We stand united with her in her quest and are grateful for a chance to contribute in any way!” says Despotz Records and ads “To be fair, Greta embodies rock music in its full meaning. She is uncompromising, tough as hell and doesn’t give a shit about what people think of her. She is not afraid to tell you about the scariest things imaginable without beautifying it a bit, and that is what metal is about.”

Cthuluminati – CD “Reliqideus ” review

Lineup: Devi – Vocals and Guitar – Rami – Guitar – Strausz – Bass -Seth – Drums

– Cthuluminati –

CD “Reliqideus ” review

1) First nummer from the Reliqideus “Illumni Fhtagn” opens with a sinister rain, and winds that howl with a harrowing voice in the dark. The riff explores, reaching out and reminds us of modern BLACK SABBATH, Psychadelic, Doom, and very Black Metal. well-constructing number that will certainly linger in your ear, even he is instrumental. Top CD opener from six nummers.

2) “El Lizard Birth” opens again very sinister with church bells increasing in sound and speed, until the main riff hits. It has a old-school feeling track with a modern touch. The vocals are intense-screamed-harrowingly voice . Very black track.

1. Illumni Fhtagn

2. El Lizard Birth

3. Svartalfr

4. Supernatural Selection

5. A Thin Line

6. Umibozu

3) “Svartalfr” is over eleven minutes in length. Yes eleven… opens very smoot with cool bass and clean guitar notes. After a while to develop the main doom riff with some raging and intense voice from Devi. Great track.

4) “Supernatural Selection” opens with a more indians harrowing sound, and quickly goes to a great mid-tempo to a very up-tempo. Very cool track.

5) “A Thin Line” this time they go quite low with some psychedelic entrance with the lead guitar notes, with a very special demonizing sound and riffs, I personally think this is the best song from total six nummers.

6)“Umibozu” and last number from “Illumni Fhtagn” EP and again a ten minute track to go
In mysterious main riff. It’s Doomy and new boundaries in sound,half-way mark the sound drops, and then it returns in a totally strange way, very cool and with innovative twists we have not heard before, Yes its band gives us a special feeling with many different angles in fused Black Metal, Doom Metal and even Psychedelic elements

if we still have to give points for this E.P. then she gets a fat 8/10

– CTHULUMINATI –

A storytelling psychedelic metal formation from the Netherlands

Genre: psychedelic blend of black, doom, stoner and progressive metal, 70’s rock, blues, as well as many other influences.

CTHULUMINATI was formed in 2015, by Devi Hisgen, Rami Wohl and Stefan Strausz after playing together for more than a year in Psychedelic Black ‘N Roll formation Marquis. Driven to evolve their music even further into the unknown, a new format was chosen in which a Psychedelic musical flow stands central. The name “Cthuluminati” was chosen to represent the band’s themes, incorporating modern conspiracies and mythology into classic Lovecraftian folklore. Soon after, Rick Lieffering (FENRIS) joined on drums. With a new complete line-up, the band played shows regularly across the Netherlands, and started recording their first full-length album ‘Reliqideus” in the summer of 2016. With the aid of Bas the Rooij (main producer), Stephen van Haestrecht (recording and production on drums) and Toni Lindgren (mastering), the album was finished end of 2017.

In the summer of 2018, Seth van de Loo (SEVERE TORTURE) decided to join the band on drums. After a year of preparations and hard work, they are ready to release a full album “Reliqideus” and contains six lengthy tracks.

DebutEP from Belgian band Gallia

DebutEP from Belgian band

– Gallia –

On July 20th 2019 the first album from Belgium band Gallia has been released, called ‘Everflame’. This album has been released through the band themselves, so this is a full Independent Release…

A few years ago, Gallia was founded as a musical project, but soon outgrew that term. Nowadays, Gallia is a five-person symphonic metal band from Belgium with original songs and a strong passion for music.

Gallia’s songs are composed by lead guitarist Yannick. He is one of the founders of Gallia and the creative brain behind the band. He started with music theory and clarinet at a young age, and discovered the joy of being on stage and making music. Next to his solo project where he writes symphonic pieces, he started Gallia and hopes to bring joy to others through the music the band works on.

Davy is the rhythm guitarist that supports the lead guitar. Davy started in 2011 with making music, when he was first handed an electric guitar. He now translates his passion for the metal genre to the songs of Gallia. Ever since he has been a fixture in this band.

The bass melody is played by Laurens. Since his teenage years, Laurens has been a fan of hard rock and metal genres, and founded Gallia together with Yannick. Laurens picked up the bass guitar and hasn’t put it down since. He plays with a lot of enthusiasm and occasionally ventures out to vocals.

The lead vocalist, however, is Elyn. She joined Gallia in 2015. She has a background in musicals and experience with classical singing, but isn’t afraid of the challenge that metal brings. Since she joined, she has also picked up writing lyrics for Gallia.

The band relies on the rhythm of Dieter, Gallia’s drummer. He started with a local marching band, and after that played for local band Clouds of Gravity. He took a break from drumming to focus on his studies, but recently picked up his drumsticks again and joined Gallia.

The technical side and general management falls on the shoulders of Joachim. His experienced ear and organisational skills make him indispensable for Gallia.

Gallia is a band bursting with ambition and love for music. The experience and passion of the band members has lead this band to move forward very quickly.
On the 20th of July they have launched their first EP called “Everflame”. It can be found on their website, CD baby, iTunes and Spotify.
Follow them on Youtube, Facebook or their website to stay updated on new songs or future performances.
